Factur-X vs ZUGFeRD
Factur-X and ZUGFeRD 2.x are sibling hybrid standards: a PDF/A-3 with EN 16931 CII embedded. The syntax family is the same. The national profile, the usual buyer, and the platform that later receives the file are not.
Use Factur-X for French buyers and the French reform. Use ZUGFeRD for German buyers. Do not assume a file that validates as one will be accepted as the other without checking the profile.

Can one JSON payload produce both?
Yes. Keep a single invoice model and ask the API for the Factur-X or ZUGFeRD profile. The XML core is shared; the profile identifier changes.
